I have not had the time to post up a 'day to day review of champix' as I promised. However, the best I can do is keep you all informed when I can.
So to continue were I left off.. My mum dropped down to the pharmacy and picked me up a months (4 week treatment iniation pack)supply of Champix. She takes gets alot of presciption drugs for a number of problems she has. So, it turned out Champix is covered under the drugs refund scheme. Basically, this means if you spend over a certain amount (i'm from Ireland), may be different in your country, you can get refunded the money back on anything over that amount. It's a nice idea the government has implemented overhere, however, I don't know how long it will last, with the recession and that.
The doctor and the girl at the chemist insisted that Champix be taken twice a day. Once in the morning and again at night. The first 11 tablets are a lower dosage (0.5 mg) and the other 42 are higher (1mg). So at the moment I am still taking two of the 0.5mg stables twice daily.
I would definitely recommend taking the tablets after some food in the morning, maybe your breakfast and your dinner in the evening. You see, I get serious cravings first thing in the morning when I wake up. Maybe smoking 3-4 cigarettes before I even get into college (I'm typically in for 9.30am). Then again after eating my dinner cravings start to kick in again. I can see these times of the day being a problem as I make my way through the course of the Champix.
When I take them, even with/after food, I get a slighty sick feeling about 5 minutes after taking one. It's like a tinkling sensation within your stomic. Nothing serious thou, you will not have to call in sick to work or anything, well from my first few days experience, it may differ for other people.
I have not really cut down on the number of cigarettes that I am smoking, but it is still early days. However, I can feel them starting to work. The cravings that I get during the day are not as intense. Two of my friends in college are smokers aswell, so whenever they go out for a cigarette I usually join them (And yes, there is a smoking ban here in Ireland - smoke outside). This will be another problem as the days go by.
But anyhow, I hope i've filled you in abit..
UPDATED: Here is a picture of the Champix box. Mine is slightly different but same colour and that.
